Are You Really the Doctor? Physician Experiences with Gendered Microaggressions from Patients

Sarah R. Ahmad et al.

Summary: This study found that physicians experience gendered microaggressions from patients, with female physicians experiencing a significantly higher frequency compared to male physicians. Gendered microaggressions were associated with job satisfaction, burnout, perceived career impacts, and behavioral modifications. Trainees experienced more microaggressions and burnout than faculty, and higher microaggression experiences scores predicted increases in burnout and reduced job satisfaction.
