Harmonization of LC-MS/MS Measurements of Plasma Free Normetanephrine, Metanephrine, and 3-Methoxytyramine

Mirko Peitzsch et al.

Summary: The study found that analytical methods for metanephrines are well harmonized between laboratories, but there is suboptimal agreement for measurements of 3-methoxytyramine. Improved analytical methods and reference interval harmonization, especially for 3-methoxytyramine, are needed to enhance clinical decision-making in testing for PPGLs.

Summary: The mammalian adrenal gland is composed of the medulla and cortex, which interact closely during development and are important for proper differentiation and function of the gland. Interfaces between the two parts are common in tumor development.

Diagnostic Accuracy of Salivary Metanephrines in Pheochromocytomas and Paragangliomas

Summary: The study suggests that salivary metanephrines have high sensitivity and accuracy in diagnosing PPGL, with a significant correlation to plasma metanephrines. However, salivary metanephrines cannot fully replace the measurement of plasma free metanephrines at present.

Urinary free metanephrines measurement in dogs with adrenal gland diseases using a new simple liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method

Noboru Sasaki et al.

Summary: The developed method based on LC-MS/MS provides a simple and accurate way to measure free metanephrines in urine, showing promising potential for diagnosing canine pheochromocytoma. The study found that the measurement of urinary metanephrines was stable and accurate, with high sensitivity and specificity for early diagnosis of PC.
