Isolation and Characterization of Porcine Astrovirus 5 from a Classical Swine Fever Virus-Infected Specimen

Shijiang Mi et al.

Summary: This study reported the first successful isolation of a porcine astrovirus 5 (PAstV5) strain, as well as the coinfection mechanism of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) and PAstV5 with CSFV, which significantly enhanced the replication of PAstV5 by suppressing interferon response.

Molecular detection and characterization reveals circulation of multiple genotypes of porcine astrovirus in Haryana, India

Rajpreet Kour et al.

Summary: The study identified the presence of PAstV in diarrheic pigs in Haryana, India, with PAstV1 being the predominant genotype and the detection of PAstV5. The highest positivity rate of PAstV was observed among weaning piglets aged 3 to 9 weeks.

Establishment of a Multiplex RT-PCR Method for the Detection of Five Known Genotypes of Porcine Astroviruses

Xin Liu et al.

Summary: A multiplex RT-PCR method was developed to detect and differentiate the five genotypes of PAstVs circulating in Chinese pig herds. Coinfections with dual or triple genotypes were also identified, highlighting the importance of this method for rapid and accurate surveillance of PAstV coinfection status. The multiplex PCR approach demonstrated advantages in terms of time and cost efficiency, as well as high sensitivity and specificity, compared to monoplex PCR.
