YAP and TAZ: Monocorial and bicorial transcriptional co-activators in human cancers

Federica Lo Sardo et al.

Summary: YAP and TAZ are transcriptional regulators involved in various physiological processes and tumorigenesis. They have overlapping and distinct functions, as well as different upstream regulation. Selective targeting of YAP or TAZ should be carefully evaluated due to their potential to impair different pathways and have diverse clinical outcomes.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

GLUT1 Expression in Tumor-Associated Neutrophils Promotes Lung Cancer Growth and Resistance to Radiotherapy

Pierre-Benoit Ancey et al.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of GLUT1 in tumor-associated neutrophils (TAN) within lung tumors, with increased glucose uptake mediated by GLUT1 impacting tumor growth and radiotherapy resistance. Targeting metabolic vulnerabilities to support anti-tumor neutrophils may be a promising strategy for cancer treatment.

YAP and TAZ are transcriptional co-activators of AP-1 proteins and STAT3 during breast cellular transformation

Lizhi He et al.

Summary: YAP and TAZ are recruited by JUNB and STAT3 in addition to TEAD, and they interact with AP-1 proteins to stimulate transcriptional activation. Different classes of YAP/TAZ target sites are associated with distinct gene functions, and YAP-specific or TAZ-specific target sites have different sequence motifs and gene classes compared to shared YAP/TAZ target sites. Genes with YAP/TAZ sites of the AP-1 or TEAD class are linked to poor survival in breast cancer patients with triple-negative breast cancer.
