Foliar supplementation of ascorbic acid modulates biochemical performance of silkworm, Bombyx mori under thermal stress

U. Aneesha et al.

Summary: Supplementation of ascorbic acid in the diet has been found effective in modifying the composition of biomolecules. This study investigates the effects of exogenous dietary supplementation of 0.2% ascorbic acid on silkworm larvae exposed to high thermal stress. The results show significant elevations in various biomolecules and suggest the potential of ascorbic acid in enhancing the production of high-quality cocoons.

DFMO feeding lowers polyamine levels and causes developmental defects in the silkworm Bombyx mori

Resma Rajan et al.

Summary: The study found that ODC plays a crucial role in regulating polyamines during the development of silkworm larvae. Inhibiting ODC with DFMO led to decreased polyamine levels, increased oxidative stress, reduced cell viability, and resulted in developmental defects in the pupal and moth stages of B. mori.

Effects of acute temperature increases on House sparrow (Passer domesticus) pectoralis muscle myonuclear domain

Aliyah D. De Jesus et al.

Summary: With rapid climate change, heat waves are becoming more intense and frequent, posing a significant threat to animals. This study found that acute heat stress alters cellular physiology in House sparrow pectoralis muscle, potentially affecting long-term muscle integrity and performance.

Impacts of heat stress on immune responses and oxidative stress in farm animals and nutritional strategies for amelioration

Surinder S. Chauhan et al.

Summary: Heat stress poses a significant challenge to the global livestock industries, affecting animal production and leading to economic losses. Research has made progress in understanding the impacts of heat stress on oxidative stress, immune responses, and developing interventions to improve farm animal health. Attention to the crosstalk between the immune system and oxidative stress, and the use of antioxidants as potential strategies to alleviate heat stress, are important considerations in mitigating the impacts of heat stress on farm animals.

Exogenous spermidine modifies nutritional and bioactive constituents of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L.) florets under heat stress

Jacinta Collado-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: The combination of heat stress and exogenous spermidine led to an increase in antioxidant activity, total phenolic compounds, sugars, proteins, and mineral components in cauliflower florets. Foliar application of spermidine at high temperature increased the contents of inositol, fructose, and sucrose, while also resulting in the accumulation of sulphate, phosphate, and nitrate.

Spermidine-induced hypusination preserves mitochondrial and cognitive function during aging

Sebastian J. Hofer et al.

Summary: Spermidine is a natural polyamine that plays a central role in promoting cellular autophagy, prolonging lifespan, and improving mitochondrial function. Dietary supplementation of spermidine enhances the hypusination of protein eEF5/EIF5A, boosts cerebral mitochondrial function and cognition.
