Enhanced Fenton-like degradation of Rhodamine B and Congo red by benzene and K+ co-doped carbon nitride with in situ-generated H2O2

Yanfang Chen et al.

Summary: Fe2+/H2O2-based photo-Fenton process is commonly used for pollution removal. However, the low activity of Fe species at neutral conditions hinders their practical applications. This study proposes the activation of in situ generated H2O2 for Fenton-like degradation of pollutants through catalysts without Fe species. A strip-like benzene and K+ co-doped g-C3N4 (KBCN) was constructed and demonstrated to have increased charge separation and enhanced H2O2 production, enabling the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) and Congo red (CR).

High-capacity NCNT-encapsulated metal NP catalysts on carbonised loofah with dual-reaction centres over C-M bond bridges for Fenton-like degradation of antibiotics

Xiao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the intensification of electron transport between dual-reaction centres in Fenton-like catalysts by incorporating carbon-metal bond bridges. Nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube-encapsulated Fe3C (Fe3C@NCNT) with dual-reaction centres over short C-Fe bond was constructed through DFT calculation. A series of NCNTs-encapsulated Fe/Fe3C, Co, and Mo2C nanoparticles on carbonised loofah were developed. The catalysts showed satisfactory degradation properties of antibiotics with excellent cycle stability and universality. The enhancement of electron transport to electron-rich M centres over short C-M bond bridges contributed to the remarkable degradation performance of the heterogeneous Fenton-like catalysts. This study provides a new perspective on the rational design of catalysts for Fenton-like degradation.

Effective H2O2-Free photo-Fenton processes over ZnSe nanosheets for photocatalytic degradation of dyes and antibiotics

Keting Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the in-situ photocatalytic generation of H2O2 using ZnSe nanosheets combined with Fe2+ for Fenton reaction can effectively degrade dyes and antibiotics. The photo-Fenton degradation rate is higher than that of photocatalytic and Fenton processes alone. ZnSe also shows excellent stability and hydrophilicity, which facilitates the contact between the catalyst and pollutants. The kinetic analysis demonstrates that the photo-Fenton degradation of ZnSe follows a pseudo-first-order kinetic.

Jingquan Wang et al.

Summary: This study compared the degradation efficiency of metronidazole (MNZ) using UV/hydrogen peroxide (UV/H2O2), UV/peroxydisulfate (UV/PDS), and UV/chlorine processes. It was found that UV/PDS showed the highest degradation rate constant. Hydroxyl radicals (HO center dot) played a significant role in the elimination of MNZ, while sulfate radical (SO4 center dot ) and chlorine radical (Cl center dot) were also essential. The presence of certain chemicals inhibited the degradation of MNZ, while others promoted it.
