Longitudinal gray matter atrophy and accompanied functional connectivity alterations in patients with pontine infarction

Ying Wei et al.

Summary: The study found progressive GMV atrophy in the cerebellum and impaired relative FC in patients with pontine infarction during a 6-month follow-up period. These changes were negatively correlated with motor scores.

Intracranial Large Artery Stenosis and Past Infectious Exposures: Results From the NOMAS Cohort

Amol Mehta et al.

Summary: This study found an association between chronic infectious exposures, specifically herpes simplex virus 2 and cytomegalovirus, and asymptomatic intracranial large artery stenosis (ILAS) as seen on magnetic resonance angiogram imaging. This may represent an additional target for intervention in the ongoing effort to reduce the burden of stroke related to ILAS.

Blood-brain barrier leakage and perivascular inflammation in cerebral amyloid angiopathy

Mariel G. Kozberg et al.

Summary: In this study, the authors examined the blood-brain barrier leakage and perivascular inflammation in cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). They found that early stages of vascular pathology could lead to blood-brain barrier leakage, triggering perivascular inflammation and vascular remodeling, eventually leading to hemorrhage.

Early-Stage MRI Volumetric Differences in White Matter Hyperintensity and Temporal Lobe Volumes between Autopsy-Confirmed Alzheimer's Disease, Cerebral Small Vessel Disease, and Mixed Pathologies

Dixon Yang et al.

Summary: Through a neuropathologically confirmed cohort study, we found volumetric differences in WMH and temporal lobe volumes between AD- and CVSD-related MCI. Moreover, our results suggest a differential atrophy susceptibility of the right versus left temporal lobe to the additive effect of AD and vascular pathologies.

The Effects of Intracranial Stenosis on Cerebral Perfusion and Cognitive Performance

Saima Hilal et al.

Summary: This study explored the association of ICS with CBF and sCoV parameters in relation to cognition, finding that patients with ICS had higher sCoV and lower CBF. The results suggest that higher sCoV detected in compromised CBF is related to cognitive impairment in individuals diagnosed with ICS, with sCoV partially mediating the link between ICS and cognition.

Determinants and Outcomes of Asymptomatic Intracranial Atherosclerotic Stenosis

Jose Gutierrez et al.

Summary: The study identified the role of risk factors and risk of vascular events in subjects with asymptomatic ICAS for improved risk stratification. Older age, duration of hypertension, number of glucose-lowering drugs, and high-density lipoprotein were associated with ICAS. The highest event risk was noted among participants with ICAS >= 70%.
