This report presents a simple method for acylation of aliphatic alcohols using succinic anhydride under neutral conditions without the need for any metal catalyst. The results show that the method can yield various acylated aliphatic alcohols in high yields. Additionally, a competitive experiment was conducted to investigate the selectivity of the reaction in the presence of CTAB.
In this report, a simple method is reported for the acylation of aliphatic alcohols via a metal-free acylation of aliphatic alcohols with succinic anhydride in neutral condition. By presented method, various acylated aliphatic alcohols are obtained in good to excellent yields. To understand the selectivity of the reaction in the presence of CTAB, a competitive experiment reaction of a mixture 1:1 of p-methoxybenzyl alcohol and phenol with succinic anhydride was examined. The method is simple work-up, mild reaction conditions, moderate to good yields, selective for aliphatic alcohols, and a useful contribution to previously reported methodologies. [GRAPHICS] .
