Multi-Band Programmable Gain Raman Amplifier

Uiara Celine de Moura et al.

Summary: This paper experimentally demonstrates a multi-band (S+C+L) programmable gain optical amplifier using only Raman effects and machine learning. The amplifier achieves >1000 programmable gain profiles within an ultra-wide bandwidth range of 17.6 THz (140.7 nm) in an ultra-fast way.

Ultra-Broadband Bismuth-Doped Fiber Amplifier Covering a 115-nm Bandwidth in the O and E Bands

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: This article presents an experimentally demonstrated all-fiber optical amplifier using Bi-doped phosphosilicate fiber, achieving >20 dB gain in both the O-band and the E-band. The amplifier provides a maximum gain of 31 dB and an in-band OSNR of >22 dB at 1420 nm, with a gain coefficient of 0.04 dB/mW for a -23 dBm input signal. Temperature dependent gain and NF performance were characterized within -40 to +60 degrees C.

Bismuth doped fibre amplifier operating in E- and S- optical bands

Aleksandr Donodin et al.

Summary: Bismuth-doped fiber amplifiers have been developed to expand the bandwidth of fiber-optic telecommunication systems beyond the C-band, with a maximum gain exceeding 31 dB and a noise figure as low as 4.75 dB in the spectral range from 1370 to 1490 nm. The forward pumping scheme demonstrated the best performance in terms of noise figure among the forward, backward, and bi-directional pumping schemes studied. The amplifier can potentially be used as an in-line amplifier with more than 20 dB gain in the spectral band from 1405 to 1460 nm.

Pump-efficient flattop O plus E-bands bismuth-doped fiber amplifier with 116 nm-3 dB gain bandwidth

Yan Ososkov et al.

Summary: A new record in the field of broadband BDFA in the O+E spectral range was reported, achieving high gain with low pump power using a bismuth-doped fiber. Different pump wavelengths were compared, with the shortest wavelength providing wider gain bandwidth but requiring higher pump power, while the longest wavelength offered higher pump efficiency but narrower gain bandwidth. Multiple wavelength amplification effects were also studied to reveal potential issues with broadband signal amplification in such amplifiers.

Power Evolution Modeling and Optimization of Fiber Optic Communication Systems With EDFA Repeaters

Metodi Plamenov Yankov et al.

Summary: Machine learning is used to create a differentiable model for the input-output power spectral profile relations of C-band erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs). The model is demonstrated to generalize to multiple physical devices of the same make and can be used to predict and optimize the power profile output of multi-span systems with arbitrary configurations.
