Renewable Electricity Enables Green Routes to Fine Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals

Ayesha Murtaza et al.

Summary: Syntheses of chemicals using renewable electricity and with high atom economies are considered as green and sustainable processes. Currently, electrochemical manufacturing of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals needs more attention. It is also important to focus on electrochemical synthesis of valuable chemicals from recyclable greenhouse gases to accelerate circular economy. Conversion of CO2 emissions into chemicals is a valuable application for its utilization, which contributes to circular economy while maintaining environmental sustainability.

Electrochemical Sulfenylation of 4-Hydroxycoumarins with Aryl Thiols Catalyzed by Potassium Iodide

Jiali Jin et al.

Summary: An KI-catalyzed indirect electrochemical oxidative method for the synthesis of sulfenylated 4-hydroxycoumarins via cross-coupling has been reported. The electrocatalytic activity of KI for sulfenylation of 4-hydroxycoumarin was investigated, and in situ FTIR data reflected the structural change of functional groups during the reaction process. The mechanism of electrochemical sulfenylation involving the generation of intermediate 1,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)disulfane has been revealed by control experiments.

New cerium-loaded phosphine oxide-functionalized polyurethane foam materials-Synthesis, stability, comparison of coordination behavior and catalytic applications

A. S. Vijai Anand et al.

Summary: Phosphine oxides are widely used in various chemical transformations as reagents, ligands, and catalysts. This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of new PO-functionalized polyurethane foams (PUFs) and their Ce-loaded counterparts. The PUFs demonstrate strong metal-binding capacity compared to monomeric and dimeric phosphine oxides, with Ce(IV)-PUFs showing the highest stability and catalytic reusability in the synthesis of biscoumarin derivatives.

Electrochemically driven synthesis of phosphorothioates from trialkyl phosphites and aryl thiols

Lingmin Zhao et al.

Summary: A facile and elegant protocol for the synthesis of phosphorothioates from trialkyl phosphites and aryl thiols using KI as a redox mediator was successfully developed. Cyclic voltammetry and in situ FTIR were used to investigate the electrocatalytic activity of KI, resulting in various phosphorothioates obtained in good to excellent yields under optimal conditions. This strategy offers a convenient access to construct P-S bond with good functional group compatibility and broad substrate scope.
