Examining Information Needs of Heart Failure Patients and Family Companions Using a Previsit Question Prompt List and Audiotaped Data: Findings From a Pilot Study

Summary: This study examined the differences between selected and actual questions asked by patients with heart failure (HF) and their family companions using a question prompt list (QPL). The results showed that patients and companions primarily selected and asked questions related to disease management and treatment, general HF knowledge, and prognosis. However, they did not ask many of the questions they reported wanting to ask. The study suggests that QPLs may help empower patients and companions to communicate with their clinicians, but further research is needed to understand their true impact on communication and HF outcomes.

Neighborhood Broadband and Use of Telehealth Among Older Adults: Cross-sectional Study of National Survey Data Linked With Census Data

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of telehealth in healthcare, with regional disparities in internet access and telehealth use. This study aimed to investigate the impact of individual and neighborhood characteristics, including broadband internet availability, on older adults' engagement in telehealth. Results showed that living in neighborhoods with lower broadband internet subscription rates was associated with a lower likelihood of engaging in telehealth among older adults who were internet users.

Evaluation of Family Caregivers' Use of Their Adult Care Recipient's Patient Portal From the 2019 Health Information National Trends Survey: Secondary Analysis

Summary: This study analyzed data from the 2019 Health Information National Trends Survey to characterize family caregivers' usage of patient portals, finding that caregivers using their own portals were significantly more likely to use care recipient's portals. Policies should support patients in designating family caregivers who can access patient portals, and providers could screen caregivers for challenges that can be addressed through portals to better support adult relatives. Interventions to support family caregivers, especially older caregivers, in using their own portals may facilitate their use of care recipient's portals.

Exploring how triads of people living with dementia, carers and health care professionals function in dementia health care: A systematic qualitative review and thematic synthesis

Summary: This review aimed to identify and synthesize the experiences of health care services reported by people living with dementia, their carers, and health care professionals. Six themes emerged related to the functioning of a dementia care triad, highlighting the importance of involving the person living with dementia, establishing expectations and roles, building trust, effective communication, continuity of care, and understanding unique relationship dynamics. Awareness of diverging attitudes and facilitation of engagement are areas for improvement and further research.
