Vectorial Catalysis in Surface-Anchored Nanometer-Sized Metal-Organic Frameworks-Based Microfluidic Devices

Anna Lisa Semrau et al.

Summary: Vectorial catalysis, controlling multi-step reactions in a programmed sequence with defined spatial localization, is a challenging goal in bio-inspired catalysis research. This study demonstrates the integration of two different surface-anchored nanometer-sized metal-organic frameworks in a microfluidic device for modeling vectorial catalysis, achieving full conversion and high turnover frequencies in a two-step cascade reaction.

25 Years of Reticular Chemistry

Ralph Freund et al.

Summary: The core of reticular chemistry has brought precision and expertise of organic and inorganic synthesis to the solid state. The most profound scientific innovation of this field has been the design strategies for the synthesis of extended crystalline solids through strong directional bonds, highlighting the different classes of reticular materials developed and how complexity can be introduced into their backbones. Structural control over these materials is being extended from the molecular scale to their crystal morphology and shape on the nanoscale, all the way to their shaping on the bulk scale.

Dimensional Reduction of Lewis Acidic Metal-Organic Frameworks for Multicomponent Reactions

Xuanyu Feng et al.

Summary: This study introduces a dimensional reduction strategy to construct a two-dimensional metal-organic framework (MOF) with high accessible Lewis acidic sites, which shows superior catalytic performance in sterically hindered multicomponent reactions (MCRs) compared to three-dimensional MOF counterparts. The topology-activity relationships in these Zr-based Lewis acidic MOFs were rationalized by comparing their Lewis acidity, numbers of Lewis acidic sites, and sterically accessible Lewis acidic sites. The dimensional reduction strategy holds promise for developing other MOF catalysts for synthetically useful and complicated organic transformations.

Exploring tailor-made BrOnsted acid sites in mesopores of tin oxide catalyst for β-alkoxy alcohol and amino alcohol syntheses

Pandian Manjunathan et al.

Summary: The study focuses on generating tunable acidic sites in tin oxide with relatively different acid strength through a simple thermal treatment process using a soft template. These active sites distributed throughout the tin oxide framework demonstrated high efficiency for epoxide ring opening reactions, surpassing stannosilicate catalysts, with excellent reusability. The use of mesoporous tin oxide as a catalyst for epoxide alcoholysis was further investigated by studying the active sites responsible through the use of a probe molecule.

Unlocking mixed oxides with unprecedented stoichiometries from heterometallic metal-organic frameworks for the catalytic hydrogenation of CO2

Javier Castells-Gil et al.

Summary: Mixed-metal oxides have complex surface chemistry and high oxygen lattice mobilities, making them important materials. Modulating stoichiometry in mixed-metal oxides can tune optical and catalytic properties, although accessing different stoichiometries is not always possible synthetically.

Tailoring Lewis/Bronsted acid properties of MOF nodes via hydrothermal and solvothermal synthesis: simple approach with exceptional catalytic implications

Sergio Rojas-Buzo et al.

Summary: The Lewis/Bronsted catalytic properties of Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) nodes can be tuned by controlling the solvent used in the synthetic process. Different nature of Hf-MOF-808 materials enables their application as selective catalysts in various target reactions.
