Direct Oxygen Transfer from H2O to Cyclooctene over Electron-Rich RuO2 Nanocrystals for Epoxidation and Hydrogen Evolution

Xiu Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, the highly selective epoxidation of cyclooctene was successfully improved using electron-rich RuO2 nanocrystals through direct oxygen transfer from water under mild conditions. The electron-rich RuO2 electrocatalysts enable efficient and durable hydrogen production without impacting the selectivity of the reaction.

Tuning Single-Atom Dopants on Manganese Oxide for Selective Electrocatalytic Cyclooctene Epoxidation

Minju Chung et al.

Summary: Selective and efficient electrocatalysts are crucial for the successful deployment of electrochemistry for synthetic applications. In this study, iridium-decorated manganese oxide nanoparticles were synthesized through galvanic replacement reactions, demonstrating high partial current density and Faradaic efficiency. Operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy results revealed that the leaching of manganese ions from the nanoparticles during the galvanic replacement process resulted in structural changes and increased presence of electrophilic oxygen atoms on the catalyst surface, enhancing the electrocatalytic activity.

Confining Water in Ionic and Organic Solvents to Tune Its Adsorption and Reactivity at Electrified Interfaces

Alessandra Serva et al.

Summary: The recent discovery of water-in-salt electrolytes has led to a resurgence in research on aqueous batteries, with a focus on expanding the electrochemical window. The speciation of water in these electrolytes differs from that in conventional aqueous solutions, leading to altered interfacial properties. By using a small amount of water in nonaqueous electrolytes, researchers have been able to control interface properties and expand the electrochemical window of aqueous electrolytes.

Effect of the metallicity on the capacitance of gold-aqueous sodium chloride interfaces

Alessandra Serva et al.

Summary: Electrochemistry experiments have shown that the capacitance of electrode-electrolyte interfaces is much larger for good metals like gold and platinum compared to carbon-based materials. By adjusting the metallicity of gold through the width of the Gaussian charge distribution, the capacitance of aqueous solutions can be modified. The presence of salt can lead to adsorption of Na+ cations on the surface of metallic gold electrodes.

The Crucial Role of Water in the Stability and Electrocatalytic Activity of Pt Electrodes

Johanna Ranninger et al.

Summary: Understanding the role of water in electrocatalysts in different electrolytes is challenging. Small amounts of water promote methanol oxidation in methanol-based electrolytes, while in acetonitrile-based systems, solvent molecules inhibit the formation of an oxide layer at the surface even with up to 1% water concentration.

Summary: An efficient electrochemical method for benzylic C(sp(3))-H bond oxidation has been developed, which utilizes O-2 as the oxygen source and lutidinium perchlorate as an electrolyte in an undivided cell. The proposed single-electron transfer mechanism for the electrooxidation reaction was supported by cyclic voltammetry studies, O-18 labeling experiments, and radical trapping experiments.
