Molecularly Engineered Covalent Organic Frameworks for Hydrogen Peroxide Photosynthesis

Mingpu Kou et al.

Summary: Synthesizing H2O2 through photocatalytic approach using a bipyridine-based covalent organic framework (COF-TfpBpy) shows high efficiency in small-scale production. The resulting H2O2 solution can degrade pollutants, and the photocatalytic activity is enhanced by the protonation of the bipyridine monomer. This work demonstrates the feasibility of COF-catalyzed photosynthesis of H2O2 from water and air, and provides a foundation for wastewater treatment using photocatalytic H2O2 solution.

How Reproducible are Surface Areas Calculated from the BET Equation?

Johannes W. M. Osterrieth et al.

Summary: Porosity and surface area analysis are important in modern materials science. However, there is a lack of attention to the reproducibility issue in calculating BET surface areas from identical isotherms, raising concerns over the reliability of reported BET areas. To address this, a new computational approach called BET surface identification (BETSI) has been developed for accurately and systematically determining the BET area of nanoporous materials.

Constructing Synergistic Triazine and Acetylene Cores in Fully Conjugated Covalent Organic Frameworks for Cascade Photocatalytic H2O2 Production

Lipeng Zhai et al.

Summary: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a suitable template for photocatalytic H2O2 synthesis due to their tunable chemical structures and semiconductor properties. However, the photoactivity of COFs is still suboptimal due to inefficient charge generation, fast recombination of photogenerated charges, and limited electron transport. In this study, triazine and acetylene units were integrated into COFs, leading to efficient charge separation, suppressed charge recombination, and enhanced electron transport. Experimental and computational results demonstrated that triazine and acetylene units synergistically promoted H2O2 synthesis through a two-electron pathway.

Accelerated Synthesis and Discovery of Covalent Organic Framework Photocatalysts for Hydrogen Peroxide Production

Wei Zhao et al.

Summary: A high-throughput sonochemical synthesis and testing strategy was developed to discover covalent organic frameworks (COFs) for photocatalysis. Among the screened COFs, one showed excellent photocatalytic activity for hydrogen peroxide production, but its activity decreased after long-term testing. The introduction of a two-phase catalytic system greatly enhanced its photostability.
