Following thermal evolution of mesoporous TiO2: from the sol to the oxide

Paula Y. Steinberg et al.

Summary: Mesoporous TiO2 thin films templated with Brij 58, Pluronic F127, and Pluronic P123 were characterized using FTIR, with detailed analysis identifying chemical species present at each treatment step. The results can help in selecting processing conditions adapted for the final application of the TiO2 films.

High transparency Pr:Y2O3 ceramics: A promising gain medium for red emission solid-state lasers

Qing Li et al.

Summary: Highly transparent 0.5 and 1.0 at% Pr-doped Y2O3 ceramics were prepared by vacuum sintering plus hot isostatic pressing (HIP), showing pore-free microstructures with an average grain size of about 1 μm. The charge states of the Pr ions could be altered by regulating annealing atmospheres, leading to different absorption and emission characteristics in the visible wavelength region.

Summary: Y2O3:Yb(3+)5 at% ceramics have been synthesized using different commercial yttria powders as raw materials. The particle size of starting powders can be decreased significantly by high-energy ball milling. The sintering temperature and sintering aid have significant effects on the densification and optical properties of the ceramics.

Achieving fabrication of highly transparent Y2O3 ceramics via air pre-sintering by deionization treatment of suspension

Zhongchao Fu et al.

Summary: An easy and effective deionization suspension treatment was used to alleviate the hydrolysis issue of Y2O3 powder, resulting in fine-grained and highly transparent Y2O3 ceramics without the use of sintering additives. The use of centrifugal casting method improved the homogeneity of green bodies, leading to fully dense Y2O3 transparent ceramics with in-line transmittance close to theoretical values.

A novel approach of synthesizing nano Y2O3 powders for the fabrication of submicron IR transparent ceramics

R. Senthil Kumar et al.

Summary: A facile methodology of synthesizing highly reactive nano Y2O3 powders to fabricate submicron yttria ceramics with superior optical and mechanical properties is reported. The sintered samples achieved high IR transmissions and enhanced mechanical properties with submicron grain sizes.urther characterization for their thermal properties was conducted on sintered and HIPed Y2O3 specimens.

Fabrication of transparent Y2O3 ceramics by two-step spark plasma sintering

Ji-Hwoan Lee et al.

Summary: The transparent Y2O3 ceramics were fabricated using a two-step pressure and heating profile, which improved shrinkage behavior and achieved sufficient density without excessive coarsening. As a result, the normalized real in-line transmittance was 80.6% at 1100 nm, close to the theoretical transmittance of 81.6%. The two-step SPS profile proved to be advantageous in manufacturing ceramics with transparency and densification.
