Role of Ag+ Ions in Determining Ce3+ Optical Properties in Fluorophosphate and Sulfophosphate Glasses

Ru Zhou et al.

Summary: Understanding the interactions between dopant species and host lattice in optically active glasses is crucial. This study focused on Ag-Ce dopants in complex fluorophosphate and sulfophosphate matrices, revealing how Ag+ affects Ce3+ properties differently in different matrices, leading to changes in UV cutoff wavelength and photoluminescence intensity.

Cerium speciation in silicate glasses: Structure-property relationships

Maria Rita Cicconi et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the speciation of cerium in different glass systems and its impact on optical and physical properties, as well as glass network connectivity. Through a multispectroscopy approach, the redox ratio of Ce3+/Ce4+ in silicate glasses/melts is determined, showing the influence of different Ce species on structure and properties. The findings suggest that utilizing oxygen ion activity may help estimate the evolution of the Ce redox ratio, while adjusting bulk chemistry does not solely affect glass luminescence properties.

Mechanical Manipulation of a Fiber-Optical Microprobe Fabricated from Oxide Glasses with Magnetic Force Response

Yicong Ding et al.

Summary: Glasses doped heavily with manganese, terbium, or thulium in aluminosilicate matrices are considered for magnetic force manipulation, with optical fibers fabricated from such glasses being used as magnetoresponsive probes for precise nanometer-level positioning and noncontact distance manipulation. This ability to tailor force response and Faraday rotation efficiency independently enables a wide range of applications, from magnetic field sensing and optical switching to force sensing and mechanical manipulation.
