Towards Child-Appropriate Virtual Acoustic Environments: A Database of High-Resolution HRTF Measurements and 3D-Scans of Children

Hark Simon Braren et al.

Summary: Head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) play an important role in simulating acoustic environments, but datasets of HRTFs for children are lacking. In this study, HRTFs of 5-10 years old children were measured and compared to adult participants. The results showed that the KEMAR artificial head does not represent the average child HRTF, suggesting the need for child-specific HRTFs in future studies.

Impact of non-individualised head related transfer functions on speech-in-noise performances within a synthesised virtual environment

Maria Cuevas-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of different HRTFs on speech perception in noisy environments, finding significant differences in SRTs measured with different HRTFs. Individual differences in HRTF choices also influenced performance, but their significance was reduced after compensation.
