Effect of ZrO2 addition on the structure and the crystallization delay in lithium disilicate based glasses

Sol-gel preparation of ZrO2-Li2Si2O5 ceramics and their sintering properties

Summary: A ZrO2-Li2Si2O5 ceramic with minimized glass phases was successfully prepared through a sol-gel method and pressureless sintering. The study showed that the densification process of the ceramic was mainly dominated by the growth of Li2Si2O5 grains, and adjusting the Li2Si2O5 content and sintering temperature could control the properties of the samples effectively.

Flexural Strength of Vitreous Ceramics Based on Lithium Disilicate and Lithium Silicate Reinforced with Zirconia for CAD/CAM

Summary: This study compared the bending strength of chairside lithium disilicate glass-ceramics with different zirconia content, finding that samples with higher zirconia percentage were more likely to fail and exceeding 10% zirconia addition reduced flexural strength. Heat treatment process improved mechanical strength, with samples containing lower zirconia showing higher flexural strength.

Summary: The influence of time and temperature on phase stabilisation, crystal phases evolution, and physical properties of lithium-silicate were studied. The effect of nucleation temperature on mineral assemblage and fracture toughness was observed through reverse-engineering a commercial material. The spatial distribution of structural units influenced the final properties.

Summary: The crystallization kinetics of two pre-crystallized multicomponent dental glass-ceramics were investigated, showing that the isothermal stage is dominated by the transformation of Li2SiO3 in Li2Si2O5, inducing the impingement of nanocrystals into clusters. The kinetics of toughening closely followed the evolution of crystallinity in both systems.
