Supramolecular organogel of polyureas containing POSS units in the main chain: dependence on the POSS and comonomer structures

Tasuku Kamitani et al.

Summary: The research explored the polymerization of phenyl-substituted T-8 cage octasilsesquioxane and found that phenylurea moieties promoted organogel formation and ortho-methyl substitution reduced the critical gel concentration. Increasing intermolecular hydrogen bonding enhanced organogel formation, while the use of isobutyl-substituted T-8 units was more conducive to organogel formation compared to DDSQ units.

Multiple Amine-Contained POSS-Functionalized Organosilica Membranes for Gas Separation

Xiuxiu Ren et al.

Summary: By using a mixed matrix membrane strategy with multiple amine POSS particles, a potential CO2 separation performance can be achieved. The pore size of the BTESE-PNEN membrane is larger than that of the BTESE-APTES hybrid membrane, resulting in different separation performance. At a low concentration of PNEN, the BTESE-PNEN membrane shows similar performance to copolymerized BTESE-APTES-related hybrid membranes.

Nanoarchitectonics: what's coming next after nanotechnology?

Katsuhiko Ariga

Summary: The crucial importance of regulating nanoscale objects and structures in science and technology is well recognized, with the fusion of nanotechnology with other disciplines enabling the production of functional material systems using nanoscale units. The concept of nanoarchitectonics involves designing functional materials with nanoscale units based on nanotechnology principles, moving beyond the traditional scope of nanotechnology. Various examples of material production based on nanoarchitectonics, from atomic switches to life science applications, are introduced in this focus article, with discussions on the final goals of the nanoarchitectonics approach.
