Coupling effect of strain rate and temperature on tensile damage mechanism of polyphenylene sulfide reinforced by glass fiber (PPS/GF30)

Mohammadali Shirinbayan et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the influence of loading temperature on the damage mechanism of glass fiber reinforced polyphenylene sulfide under tension. The results showed that fiber orientation and temperature significantly affect the mechanical properties of the material, and high strain rates and high temperatures lead to more severe damage.

Preparation, compression behavior and 3D damage evolution of epoxy syntactic foam with nickel hollow spheres

Ruoxuan Huang et al.

Summary: The nickel thin-walled hollow spheres (NHS) epoxy syntactic foam was prepared by infiltration method and its crystal structure, compressive performance, and failure mechanism were investigated. The NHS syntactic foam has low air void content and high compressive resistance, with ability to absorb energy effectively. The failure process is dominated by deformation of NHS and strain hardening.

Tensile and shear behavior of plain weave fabric carbon fiber reinforced polymer at elevated temperatures

Claudia Barile et al.

Summary: This study investigates the variation in tensile and in-shear properties of plain weave fabric carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites at different temperature conditions. The results show that the tensile properties tend to increase when the specimens are tested close to their curing temperature, but decrease by up to 7.88% compared to room temperature conditions when tested close to their glass transition temperature. The in-plane shear strength and shear modulus also significantly decrease at higher temperature due to fiber-matrix interaction. Specimens tested close to the glass transition temperature experience reductions of up to 44.36% in in-plane shear strength and 29.26% in shear modulus compared to their properties at room temperature.

Effects of temperature and fiber orientation on the tensile behavior of short carbon fiber reinforcedPEEKcomposites

Baoning Chang et al.

Summary: The study found that the mechanical properties of SCF/PEEK composites exhibit significant anisotropy under different temperatures and fiber orientations, with fibers mainly aligned along the mold flow direction. As temperature increases, both elastic modulus and tensile strength decrease, while fracture strain increases.

In situ observation of the deformation and fracture of an alumina-alumina ceramic-matrix composite at elevated temperature using x-ray computed tomography

Talha J. Pirzada et al.

Summary: The study observed the deformation and fracture behavior of ceramic-matrix composite materials at both low and high temperatures, identifying specific fracture modes. Propagation of internal cracks at stresses close to the flexural strength was the main fracture mechanism, with the additional failure mode of delamination observed at higher temperatures.

Influence of void content and morphology on the creep behavior on glass/ epoxy composites

Fillip Cortat Alves et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the dynamic mechanical properties and creep behavior of glass/epoxy composites with different void contents by using X-ray microtomography. The void content was found to interfere with stress transferring, leading to lower storage modulus and higher creep deformation, especially in the glass transition region. Temperature and stress levels also played a role in affecting the creep behavior of the composites, along with void content and morphology.

Yuanhao Li et al.

Summary: The study examined the tensile behavior and failure mechanism of 3D needle-punched Cf/SiC-Al composites, showing that Al alloy successfully prepared between carbon fiber bundles resulted in lower porosity. Cf/SiC-Al composites exhibited higher tensile strength and modulus compared to Cf/SiC composites.

Summary: This study investigated the in-plane shear strength of 2D C/SiC composites at different temperatures using a modified Iosipescu method. Results showed that the release of tensile stress at elevated temperatures and the oxidation of carbon fibers were the main factors affecting the IPSS variations.
