Control Strategy Assessment for Improving PEM Fuel Cell System Efficiency in Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicles

Sara Luciani et al.

Summary: This paper examines different control strategies for optimizing the power split between the battery and PEM fuel cell in order to increase the efficiency of the fuel cell system and reduce fuel consumption. The results show that the best control strategies can achieve a fuel cell system efficiency of 33% or higher, while reducing fuel consumption by 30% compared to the baseline control strategy in low-load drive cycles.

Effect of mesoporous carbon on oxygen reduction reaction activity as cathode catalyst support for proton exchange membrane fuel cell

Meng Xie et al.

Summary: A new carbon support with abundant mesoporous structures was used to prepare Pt/C catalysts, which exhibited excellent performance. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that Pt particles were evenly distributed on the surface of the carbon support and smaller Pt particles were deposited inside the mesopores. The resulting catalyst showed promising performance in the membrane electrode assembly.

Understanding the Ebalance for water management in hydroxide exchange membrane fuel cells

Lin Shi et al.

Summary: Understanding water management in hydroxide exchange membrane fuel cells (HEMFCs) is crucial for improving performance and durability. The balance between water generation and phase-change-induced flow is the main factor controlling cell voltage. Heat generation can regulate flooding by stabilizing the voltage with increasing current density. The balance voltage, determined by cell operating conditions and gas diffusion layer properties, can be modeled and adjusted using temperature, pressure, and thermal conductivity.

Air-Side Fin Geometry of a Tube-Strip Heat Exchanger for Fuel Cell Vehicles

Guoping Wu et al.

Summary: This study conducted a numerical analysis and optimization of a tube-strip heat exchanger used in fuel cell vehicles, finding that heat exchangers with rectangular fins have higher heat transfer rates compared to those with trapezoidal and triangular fins at an inlet air velocity of 4 m/s. Heat exchangers equipped with louvers parallel and vertical with the air flow achieve better thermal performance for high-power heat dissipation.
