An analytical approach to elucidate the architecture of polyethyleneimines

Kinga Grenda et al.

Summary: Polyethyleneimine (PEI) is a common polymer used in various applications, with diverse structures such as linear and branched. Characterization methods including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy have been utilized to gain insights into its structure and functional groups, with quantitative C-13 NMR analysis being particularly useful in determining the degree of branching.

Electrophoretic deposition as a fabrication method for Li-ion battery electrodes and separators - A review

Amirhossein Hajizadeh et al.

Summary: Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD) is an alternative method for manufacturing and improving the performance of Li-ion batteries. It allows the fabrication of electrodes with excellent quality and different electrochemical properties, as well as the incorporation of nanomaterials into the battery electrodes without binders. EPD also enables the assembly of freestanding electrodes with a 3D structure and the creation of electrodes with oriented microstructures on 3D substrates. This article provides an introduction to EPD, reviews the effects of EPD parameters on electrode properties, compares EPD with tape casting, discusses its advantages over conventional methods, and evaluates its application in separator fabrication.

Plasticized 3D-Printed Polymer Electrolytes for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Adi Vinegrad et al.

Summary: In this research, polylactide-polyethylene-oxide blended membranes were developed and printed using fused-filament fabrication, with an ionic liquid infused to produce quasi-solid polymer electrolytes. The study found that increasing the content of polyethylene oxide led to a significant improvement in bulk conductivity of the membranes.

Energy Storage Materials for Solid-State Batteries: Design by Mechanochemistry

Roman Schlem et al.

Summary: This review discusses the physical and mechanochemical processes that influence the processing of solid-state batteries, with a focus on the influence of milling and dispersing procedures on the ionic transport properties. By combining theoretical backgrounds with a wide range of examples, a better understanding of critical parameters related to mechanical milling of solid electrolytes and solid-state battery components is provided.

On the temperature and pressure dependence of dielectric relaxation processes in ionic liquids

Florian Pabst et al.

Summary: The study used dielectric spectroscopy to monitor the dynamic processes of five supercooled ionic liquids with octyl-chains at ambient and high pressures, revealing a close connection between the ion hopping process and the glass transition step, while tentatively attributing the second process to dipolar reorientations. The dielectric strength of this slow process decreases as the relaxation time increases, suggesting a possible connection to decreasing temperatures and increasing pressures. Comparison with literature data of other ion conducting systems is used to discuss the microscopic origin of these behaviors.
