Intra-supramolecular electron transfer of the light harvesting porphyrin-phthalocyanine complex in aqueous medium

Mohamed E. El-Khouly et al.

Summary: This report focuses on the construction and characterization of a supramolecular light harvesting system composed of zinc(II) phthalocyanine tetrasulfonic acid (ZnPcS4) and meso-tetra(N-methyl-4-pyridyl) porphyrin toluene sulfonate (TMPP). The results demonstrate the formation of aggregated forms in water and significant changes in absorption and fluorescence spectra in cationic and anionic micelles. Interaction with ZnPcS4 leads to the formation of a light harvesting porphyrin-phthalocyanine supramolecular complex and an efficient intra-supramolecular electron transfer process. This finding is of great importance for the construction of artificial photosynthetic reaction centers.

Supramolecular Hydrogels Consisting of Nanofibers Increase the Bioavailability of Curcuminoids in Inflammatory Skin Diseases

David Limon et al.

Summary: The low bioavailability of curcuminoids can be improved by incorporating them into supramolecular hydrogels. The concentration of gelator and curcuminoids, as well as the proportion of solvents, affect the self-assembly process of the hydrogels. The nanostructured supramolecular hydrogels have excellent potential for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases.

The application of aluminium phthalocyanine AlPs-4-mediated photodynamic therapy against human soft tissue sarcoma (RMS) cell line

Muhammad Zakir et al.

Summary: The study focused on the photodynamic effect of iron oxide and cobalt ferrite nanomaterials coated with polyvinyl alcohol loaded with anticancer drugs. It was found that the combination of photodynamic therapy and chemotherapy resulted in lower cell viability compared to monotherapy treatments. Further in vivo studies are needed to explore the potential of these nanomaterials for cancer treatment.

Light-controlled micron-scale molecular motion

Mario Samperi et al.

Summary: This study describes a purely supramolecular system where a molecular 'traveller' moves along a 'path' over several microns when irradiated with visible light. Real-time imaging shows anionic porphyrin molecules moving along fibres of a bis-imidazolium gel upon irradiation, indicating control of motion by fibre mechanics with solvent composition.
