Usage of agricultural DAP-fertilizer and Eucalyptus essential oils as potential attractants against the mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata (Tephritidae)

Insaf Sadraoui-Ajmi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of two formulations based on DAP and Eucalyptus essential oils for controlling Mediterranean fruit fly, showing their good attractant potential and toxicity towards the pest. The results support the use of essential oils and fertilizer-based formulations as an innovative tool for pest management.

Promising Insecticidal Efficiency of Essential Oils Isolated from Four Cultivated Eucalyptus Species in Iran against the Lesser Grain Borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (F.)

Asgar Ebadollahi et al.

Summary: Eucalyptus essential oils show promising insecticidal effects on the lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica. The essential oils reduce the protein, glycogen, and lipid contents in treated insects, as well as their digestive enzyme activities. The consumption index, relative consumption rate, and relative growth rate of treated adults are also reduced. The essential oils of Eucalyptus species can be potential candidates for eco-friendly grain protectant agents.

Essential Oils and Their Formulations for the Control of Curculionidae Pests

Karla A. Garrido-Miranda et al.

Summary: Synthetic pesticides used in agriculture have been proven to be highly toxic, leading to environmental contamination and the development of resistance in insects. This has resulted in the banning or restriction of these pesticides in many countries. Essential oils are being explored as a renewable and safe alternative, as they have insecticidal effects against different pests. However, their high volatility and low solubility in water pose challenges.

Insecticidal and behavioral effects of some plant essential oils againstSitophilus granariusL. andTribolium castaneum(Herbst)

Mehmet Ali Teke et al.

Summary: Insecticidal, repellent, and fumigant activities of essential oils extracted from Rosemary, Daphne, Echinacea, Marjoram, Basil, and Fennel were tested against stored grain pests under laboratory conditions. The oils showed potential for controlling the studied pests, causing high mortality rates and decreased progeny production.

Overexposing mosquitoes to insecticides under global warming: A public health concern?

Giovanni Benelli et al.

Summary: Studying the combined effect of global warming and insecticide exposure on the spread of mosquito-borne diseases is crucial and more resources should be allocated to this research. It is particularly important to understand how different vector species cope with these stressors, and how they may impact the activity of mosquito biocontrol agents.
