Topological cavities in phononic plates for robust energy harvesting

Zhihui Wen et al.

Summary: The study proposes using phononic thin plate systems for robust energy harvesting application relying on zero-dimensional cavities confined by the Kekule's distorted topological vortices. The harvesting power induced by topological cavities is about 30 times that of the bare plate. Further studies show that the proposed energy harvesting system is highly robust against symmetry-preserving defects and is less influenced even for symmetry-breaking defects at moderate perturbation level.

Dual-Band Helical Edge States and Discrete Dirac Vortices in Solid-State Elastic Waves

Zi-Dong Zhang et al.

Summary: Dual-band equipment has unique advantages in ensuring wireless communication stability and improving efficiency. In this study, a dual-mode elastic topological insulator is designed and experimentally realized, and the quantum spin Hall effect is observed under dual bands. By constructing a multidomain junction, dual-mode and dual-band Dirac vortexes are obtained in a single structure, offering excellent performance. These findings contribute to the development of solid-state topological-phononic integrated circuits with high performance and multifunctionality.

Multiband Pure Topological States in Elastic Structures

He Liu

Summary: Inspired by topological physics, this study designs an elastic system based on fundamental mechanical elements that can support multiband pure topological states. By adjusting the heights of nuts fastened on beams, the degeneracies can be lifted, giving rise to two kinds of valley Hall phases characterized by opposite valley Chern numbers. Numerical simulations demonstrate the existence of topologically protected interface waves over dual frequency ranges.

Valley-dependent bilayer circuit networks

Qingsong Pei et al.

Summary: Recent investigations have shown that the valley degree of freedom in bilayer graphene can lead to novel topological phases. In this work, a bilayer circuit network is proposed to engineer exotic valley physics and design valley-selected electronic devices. The existence of valley-dependent chiral edge states is confirmed, and the possibility of valley-enabled voltage splitters is demonstrated using the designed circuit network.

Ideal type-II Weyl phases and surface states for elastic waves in three-dimensional solid phononic crystals

Shao-Yong Huo et al.

Summary: An elastic type-II Weyl semimetal has been demonstrated in three-dimensional solid phononic crystals with broken spatial inversion symmetry, showcasing ideal type-II Weyl points and opened Fermi-arc-like surface states for robust transport of 3D elastic waves. Additionally, a phase transition between elastic type-II Weyl semimetals and two valley topological insulators has been revealed, with Fermi-circle-like surface states observed at the domain wall of two 3D phononic crystals with different valley topological phases. This research provides a platform for exploring Weyl physics on a macroscopic mechanical structure.

Selective Topological Pumping for Robust, Efficient, and Asymmetric Sound Energy Transfer in a Dynamically Coupled Cavity Chain

Long-Sheng Zeng et al.

Summary: Research on topological pumping of sound waves has been a hot topic in acoustics in the past decade, demonstrating the movement of sound energy in cavity chains and the existence of topological states. Level crossing can result in complete transfer of sound energy, while no crossing leads to reversal and return of sound energy.

Abnormal topological refraction into free medium at subwavelength scale in valley phononic crystal plates

Linyun Yang et al.

Summary: In this work, a topological valley phononic crystal plate is proposed and the refraction behavior of valley modes is investigated. Different symmetries and energy peaks are observed in boundary states fixed on different interfaces, affecting the refraction patterns. Emitting waves become evanescent at deep subwavelength scales, existing only along specific types of outlet edges.
