Direct Observation of Strong Anomalous Hall Effect and Proximity-Induced Ferromagnetic State in SrIrO3

Arun Kumar Jaiswal et al.

Summary: The 5d iridium-based transition metal oxides with strong spin-orbit coupling have attracted broad interest. However, due to weak electron-electron correlation, they rarely exhibit mainstream orders like ferromagnetism. In this study, a proximity-induced ferromagnetic state is achieved in a SrIrO3 heterostructure through interfacial charge transfer. The research also reveals a strong pseudospin-lattice coupling in the anomalous Hall effect at low temperature.

Thin Film Skyrmionics

Takaaki Dohi et al.

Summary: Magnetic skyrmions, topologically stabilized magnetic solitons, have been discovered in various materials systems, intriguing researchers not only in terms of fundamental physics but also in terms of engineering applications. Skyrmions in thin films are easily manipulable by electrical means even at room temperature, leading to a variety of potential applications. The field of skyrmion-based electronics, referred to as skyrmionics, is rapidly growing and expanding in multiple directions.

Challenges in identifying chiral spin textures via the topological Hall effect

Graham Kimbell et al.

Summary: Hall effect measurements are commonly used to identify chiral spin textures in materials, but similar Hall signals can be caused by experimental issues or sample inhomogeneity. This article discusses the ambiguity in Hall signals and questions the reliability of Hall effect measurements as evidence of chiral spin textures.

Strong Ferromagnetism Achieved via Breathing Lattices in Atomically Thin Cobaltites

Sisi Li et al.

Summary: A method has been reported to maintain strong ferromagnetism in insulating LaCoO3 layers down to the thickness of a single unit cell. The study found that the magnetic and electronic states of LCO are intimately linked to the structural parameters of adjacent SrCuO2 layers. This research demonstrates a strategy for creating ultrathin ferromagnetic oxides by exploiting atomic heterointerface engineering, confinement-driven structural transformation, and spin-lattice entanglement in strongly correlated materials.

Dimensional Control of Octahedral Tilt in SrRuO3 via Infinite-Layered Oxides

Shan Lin et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that manipulation of octahedral distortion at atomic level is an effective means to tune the ground states of functional oxides. This study proposes a new route to tune ferromagnetism in ultrathin SrRuO3 layers by oxygen coordination of adjacent SrCuO2 layers, altering octahedral distortion and spin state of Ru.

Strain-Driven Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction for Room-Temperature Magnetic Skyrmions

Yuelin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the emergence of a strain-driven Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in a centrosymmetric material, leading to distinct nonreciprocities in spin-wave propagation and the formation of magnetic skyrmion and spiral lattices at room temperature. These results highlight the feasibility of investigating chiral spintronics in a wide range of centrosymmetric magnetic materials.

Large intrinsic anomalous Hall effect in SrIrO3 induced by magnetic proximity effect

Myoung-Woo Yoo et al.

Summary: The anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in ferromagnets can be caused by intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms. The interplay between correlated physics and topological phenomena at the interface between a ferromagnet La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 and a semimetallic SrIrO3 results in a large AHE with high anomalous Hall conductivity and Hall angle values.

Magnetic skyrmions for unconventional computing

Sai Li et al.

Summary: Improvements in computing performance have slowed down due to hardware limitations in recent years, while the demand for data computing has increased exponentially. Attention has been focused on scaling Moore's law and advanced non-von Neumann computing architecture, with a variety of unconventional computing paradigms devised with the rapid development of nanoscale devices. Magnetic skyrmions, seen as potential candidates for unconventional computing due to their small size and unique properties, have attracted significant interest.
