Piezocatalytic and Photocatalytic Hydrogen Peroxide Evolution of Sulfide Solid Solution Nano-Branches from Pure Water and Air

Sen Lin et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the performance of CdxZn1-xS nano-branches in piezocatalytic and photocatalytic H2O2 production. The synthesized solid solutions show higher H2O2 yields than pristine ZnS and CdS under ultrasound conditions. The optimal evolution rate reaches 21.9 mu mol g(-1) h(-1) for Cd0.5Zn0.5S without any sacrificial agent, and increases to 151.6 mu mol g(-1) h(-1) under visible light irradiation. The nano-branch structure benefits mechanical energy conversion and H2O2 evolution, and a higher concentration of charge carriers is generated in photocatalysis.

Tailoring of electronic and surface structures boosts exciton-triggering photocatalysis for singlet oxygen generation

Dongpeng Zhang et al.

Summary: Surface substitutional doping with Pt has significant effects on the electronic and surface characteristics of atomically thin layers of Bi3O4Br, enhancing the generation of O-1(2). The introduced Pt impurity states can trap photoinduced singlet excitons, reducing the singlet-triplet energy gap and facilitating the generation of triplet excitons. Chemisorption state of O-2 causes changes in the magnetic moment of O-2 through electron-mediated triplet energy transfer, resulting in specific O-1(2) generation.

Van Der Waals gap-rich BiOCl atomic layers realizing efficient, pure-water CO2-to-CO photocatalysis

Yanbiao Shi et al.

Summary: Efficient photocatalytic CO2-to-CO conversion in pure water was achieved by utilizing sub-3-nm-thick BiOCl nanosheets with van der Waals gaps on the two-dimensional facets. The presence of VDWGs on atomic layers significantly enhanced charge separation efficiency and facilitated the formation of highly active sites for CO2 transformation. Increasing VDWG exposure is proposed as a strategy for designing high-performance solar-fuel generation systems.

Regulation of excitons dissociation in AgI/Bi3O4Br for advanced reactive oxygen species generation towards photodegradation

Ruiren Zhou et al.

Summary: The role of excitons and hot carriers in photo-induced processes, as well as their benefits in charge transfer in photocatalysis, were explored using an AgI/Bi3O4Br model. The reduction of spin-orbit coupling and presence of oxygen vacancies in the heterojunction were identified as key factors contributing to the high efficiency of ROS generation. The interfacial interaction between AgI and Bi3O4Br also played a significant role in reducing the generation of O-1(2) and increasing the production of O-2 center dot(-) and center dot OH center dot radicals, leading to effective degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater.
