Point-of-need detection of pathogen-specific nucleic acid targets using magnetic particle spectroscopy

Enja Laureen Roesch et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a diagnostic assay for the detection of pathogen-specific nucleic acids based on magnetic nanoparticles, which allows for rapid and accurate detection of various nucleic acids. DNA can be detected at a concentration as low as 500 pM, and RNA, SARS-CoV-2-specific DNA, and saliva can also be used as sample media for accurate testing.

Dependence of biomolecule detection on magnetic nanoparticle concentration

Jing Zhong et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that a lower MNP concentration can improve the measurement sensitivity of biomolecules with MPS in the frequency range from 180 to 1418 Hz. The ratio of the 3rd to 1st harmonics decreases significantly with increasing IgG concentration at a lower MNP concentration, indicating a higher measurement sensitivity of IgG. The absolute variation in the ratio of 3rd to 1st harmonics of the MNPs can be used as a characterization of the measurement sensitivity of IgG.

Development of Fast and Portable Frequency Magnetic Mixing-Based Serological SARS-CoV-2-Specific Antibody Detection Assay

Jan Pietschmann et al.

Summary: The emergence of novel coronavirus in China in December 2019 led to a global pandemic, where vaccination is expected to provide containment of the virus. To better detect antibodies, a novel and rapid serological magnetic immunodetection (MID) point-of-care (PoC) assay was developed, giving qualitative and semiquantitative results of SARS-CoV-2-specific antibody levels in patient's sera within a short time.
