Size-Specific Magnetic Configurations in Electrodeposited EpitaxialIron Nanocuboids: From Landau Pattern to Vortex and Single Domain States

Shanshan Guo et al.

Summary: As the size of magnetic devices decreases, the understanding of three-dimensional nanomagnets and their magnetic configurations becomes increasingly important. In this study, single-crystal iron nanocuboids with varying sizes were synthesized using progressive nucleation during epitaxial nano-electrodeposition. The size-dependent magnetic configurations of these nanocuboids were investigated and a magnetic configuration versus size phase diagram was established. Both experimental and theoretical results demonstrated a sequential transition of magnetic configurations from Landau pattern to vortex and finally single domain as the nanocuboid sizes decrease. This research approach provides a quantitative understanding of magnetic configurations in a broad size range and can be applied to other materials and shapes, offering an advanced route for future nanodevice design.

Long-chain hydrocarbons by CO2 electroreduction using polarized nickel catalysts

Yansong Zhou et al.

Summary: Scientists have discovered that using inorganic nickel oxygenate-derived electrocatalysts can efficiently convert CO2 into C-3 to C-6 hydrocarbons, with a Faradaic efficiency of up to 6.5%. This is in contrast to metallic nickel, which shows little to no activity. The study reveals that atom polarization is key in preventing nickel poisoning and enabling the reduction of CO2 into valuable products.

Unsupported and silica-supported nickel nanoparticles: synthesis and application in catalysis

Mohamed Abboud et al.

Summary: This review article summarizes the synthesis methods of nickel nanoparticles (Ni NPs) and their utilization as nanocatalysts in heterogeneous catalysis and photocatalysis. The article discusses various techniques for preparing unsupported Ni NPs, such as ball milling and chemical reduction, as well as methods for incorporating Ni NPs into silica, including impregnation and precipitation. Furthermore, the review explores the recent applications of unsupported and supported Ni NPs in catalysis and photocatalysis, with a brief investigation of the impact of Ni NP size and aggregation on their catalytic activity and reusability.
