Seismic stratigraphy, sedimentary facies analysis and reservoir characteristics of the Middle Jurassic syn-rift sediments in Salam Oil Field, north Western Desert, Egypt

Mahmoud Leila et al.

Summary: The Middle Jurassic syn-rift sediments in the Western Desert of Egypt, known as the Khatatba Formation, have potential as hydrocarbon reservoir targets. This study integrates seismic, well logs, and core data to analyze the sedimentary patterns and factors affecting distribution and quality of reservoir facies. The formation comprises two discrete units with distinct rift phases, showing repeated cycles of progradation and retrogradation with an overall progradational trend.

Seismic interpretation, reservoir characterization, gas origin and entrapment of the Miocene-Pliocene Mangaa C sandstone, Karewa Gas Field, North Taranaki Basin, New Zealand

Ahmed A. Radwan et al.

Summary: The Karewa gas discovery in the Taranaki Basin of New Zealand revealed commercial gas potential in the Miocene-Pliocene stratigraphic horizons, originating from microbial carbonate reduction processes. The reservoir characteristics of the Mangaa C sandstone and the seal capacity analysis of the system confirm its gas potential and efficiency in sealing a thick gas column.

Controls on generation and accumulation of blended gases (CH4/H2/He) in the Neoproterozoic Amadeus Basin, Australia

Mahmoud Leila et al.

Summary: The study investigates the formation and accumulation of gas blends in the southern part of the Amadeus Basin, Australia. The gases are mainly generated by diagenetic processes, fluid/rock interactions, maturation of petroleum source rocks and microbial activity. These gases accumulate in a subsurface trap with a permeable reservoir and a structural trap, sealed by a thick salt layer. The sources of the gases include thermal cracking of organic matter for hydrocarbons and radiolytic decay of radioelements for helium. The study shows that the gas blend has accumulated over a long period of time, and the generation and migration of gases are still active.
