Live hospice discharge: Experiences of families, and hospice staff

Margaret F. Clayton et al.

Summary: This study examines live hospice discharge prevalence and experiences of families and hospice staff. Findings indicate that decline is less predictable for non-cancer diagnoses, such as dementia, often resulting in involuntary live hospice discharge. Both families and staff highlight the need for policy changes in hospice service eligibility to better meet patient needs.
