Reversible Photoisomerization in a Ru cis-Dihydride Catalyst Accessed through Atypical Metal-Ligand Cooperative H2 Activation: Photoenhanced Acceptorless Alcohol Dehydrogenation

Paul M. Fanara et al.

Summary: This study discovered a rare aromatized binding mode, different from the usual dearomatized moieties that result from dehydrohalogenation of pyridine-derived pincer ruthenium complexes. Additionally, the study demonstrated the formation of another cis-dihydride isomer through reversible photoisomerization, which was leveraged for photoenhanced H-2 production via acceptorless alcohol dehydrogenation.

Combined Experimental and Computational Study of the Mechanism of Acceptorless Alcohol Dehydrogenation by POCOP Iridium Pincer Complexes

Alexey V. Polukeev et al.

Summary: This study found that dilution has a significant impact on the performance of catalysts and the acceleration mechanism of alcohol dehydrogenation is related to the rate-limiting mass transfer of hydrogen. Experimental and computational methods showed that dehydrogenation has two high-barrier steps and the re-hydrogenation of dehydrogenation products is responsible for the rate retardation in concentrated solutions of the catalyst.
