Regioselective C-H Alkylation of Aromatic Ethers with Alkenes by a Half-Sandwich Calcium Catalyst

Lanxiao Zhao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the catalytic ortho-regioselective C-H alkylation of alkoxy-substituted benzene derivatives with alkenes using a half-sandwich calcium alkyl complex as the precatalyst. The potential catalytic reaction intermediates were isolated and X-ray structurally characterized, with DFT calculations elucidating the different reaction profiles of sp(2) and sp(3) C-H activations.

Metal-catalysed C-H bond activation and borylation

Ranjana Bisht et al.

Summary: Transition metal-catalysed direct borylation of hydrocarbons via C-H bond activation has gained significant attention for its synthetic versatility. Selectivity control is a challenging issue, but recent efforts have led to impressive progress in both proximal and distal C-H bond borylation reactions. Innovative methodologies have been developed for ortho C-H bond borylation reactions, while meta and para selective reactions remain a challenge. Advancements have also been made for aliphatic C(sp(3))-H borylations and enantioselective borylations. This review discusses the development of different approaches and findings since 2014, as well as various applications of C-H borylation reactions in the synthesis of natural products, therapeutics, and materials chemistry.

Diastereoselective synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]azocines by Lu(OTf)3-catalyzed [4+4] cycloaddition of donor-acceptor cyclobutanes with anthranils

Meifeng Hou et al.

Summary: In this study, the construction of N-heterocyclic eight-membered rings using Lu(OTf)(3) as a catalyst is reported. A formal [4+4] cycloaddition reaction of cyclobutane 1,1-diesters with anthranils was used to deliver oxa-bridged eight-membered heterocycles, providing a potential method for building complex azocine compounds.
