Enabling Reductive C-N Cross-Coupling of Nitroalkanes and Boronic Acids by Steric Design of P(III)/P(V)=O Catalysts

Gen Li et al.

Summary: An organophosphorus-catalyzed C-N bond-forming reductive coupling of nitroalkanes with arylboronic acids and esters has been reported. The method exhibits excellent chemoselectivity for the nitro/boronic acid substrate pair, facilitating the synthesis of functionally-rich N-(hetero)arylamines. The identification of a sterically reduced phosphetane catalyst enables the productive coupling in the P(III)/P(V)=O redox manifold, by affecting post-rate-limiting steps and avoiding deleterious side-paths.

Facile and Economical Electrochemical Dehalogenative Deuteration of (Hetero)Aryl Halides

Lijun Lu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a practical electrochemical reduction method for the deuteration of (hetero)aryl halides, which does not require metal catalysts or toxic reagents, and can be carried out at room temperature. The use of low-cost and chemically equivalent D2O as the sole deuterium source in this reaction makes it economically feasible.

Site-specific Umpolung amidation of carboxylic acids via triplet synergistic catalysis

Yunyun Ning et al.

Summary: The development of catalytic amide bond-forming methods is important as it has the potential to overcome the limitations of traditional methods using superstoichiometric activating reagents. This study demonstrates an Umpolung amidation reaction of carboxylic acids with nitroarenes and nitroalkanes enabled by FeI2, P(V)/P(III) and photoredox catalysis, avoiding the production of byproducts. This method allows for the smooth participation of a wide range of carboxylic acids in such reactions, generating structurally diverse amides in good yields.
