The impact of a poverty reduction intervention on infant brain activity

Sonya Troller-Renfree et al.

Summary: This study provides evidence that providing monthly unconditional cash transfers to mothers experiencing poverty in the first year of their children's lives may change infant brain activity. These changes reflect neuroplasticity and environmental adaptation, and are associated with the development of subsequent cognitive skills.

Spectral parameterization for studying neurodevelopment: How and why

Brendan Ostlund et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the importance of the explicit parameterization of neural power spectra in cognitive neuroscience research, and introduces an automated spectral parameterization algorithm. The paper provides annotated code for power spectral parameterization and demonstrates its utility through an analysis of EEG data in children. Ultimately, the explicit parameterization of EEG power spectra helps refine our understanding of the impact of dynamic neural communication on cognition across the lifespan.

Longitudinal changes in aperiodic and periodic activity in electrophysiological recordings in the first seven months of life

Natalie Schaworonkow et al.

Summary: Neuronal oscillations play a significant role in early human development, but their assessment is confounded by aperiodic neuronal activity. Studies have shown that the aperiodic signal gradually shifts from childhood into adulthood, highlighting its importance. Longitudinal analysis of EEG data from infants shows progressive flattening of the EEG power spectrum starting in early development.

Associations of socioeconomic and other environmental factors with early brain development in Bangladeshi infants and children

Sarah K. G. Jensen et al.

Summary: Studies in high-income countries have shown that socioeconomic factors are associated with EEG power in infants, while in low-income Bangladesh, household wealth and maternal perceived stress are related to EEG power in 36-month-old children.
