Effect of Oxygen Vacancies on Adsorption of Small Molecules on Anatase and Rutile TiO2 Surfaces: A Frontier Orbital Approach

Nobutsugu Hamamoto et al.

Summary: Adsorption is a critical step in catalytic reactions, and the presence of oxygen vacancies on metal oxide surfaces can significantly impact the adsorption process of small molecules. Utilizing first-principles calculations and regression analyses, this study demonstrates that oxygen vacancies lead to changes in electronic structures and influence adsorption energy. Hardness is identified as the primary descriptor for explaining the adsorption of various molecules by TiO2 surfaces.

TiO2 as a Photocatalyst for Water Splitting-An Experimental and Theoretical Review

Hakon Eidsvag et al.

Summary: TiO2 is widely used as a photocatalyst due to its low cost and stability, however challenges such as wide bandgap, long electron-hole recombination time, and high overpotential for the hydrogen evolution reaction still persist. Further research is needed in order to address these challenges and drive the field forward.

Temperature-Responsive Multilayer Films Based on Block Copolymer-Coated Silica Nanoparticles for Long-Term Release of Favipiravir

Li Xu et al.

Summary: By utilizing surface-initiated atom-transfer radical polymerization, temperature-responsive block polymers were functionalized on the surface of silica nanocapsules, demonstrating swelling/deswelling behaviors under temperature stimulus. The impact of steric hindrance on the assembling behavior, swelling/deswelling transition, and drug release rate of multilayer films was investigated.

Micro and nanodomains on structured silica/titania photocatalysts surface evaluated in RhB degradation: Effect of structural properties on catalytic efficiency

Yolice P. Moreno et al.

Summary: Mesoporous nanoparticles and mixed-structure silica with nanometric and micrometric domains were prepared using SiCl4, while TiCl4 was used to obtain supported titania photocatalysts. By evaluating the photocatalysts for Rhodamine B photodegradation, it was found that mass fractal structured catalysts exhibited higher catalytic activity. XPS and RBS were used to determine the distribution of Ti-O-Si species on the support surface, and S(N)Cl5Ti sample showed higher photocatalytic activity for RhB degradation.
