Cross Brain-Gut Analysis Highlighted Hub Genes and LncRNA Networks Differentially Modified During Leucine Consumption and Endurance Exercise in Mice with Depression-Like Behaviors

Navid Abedpoor et al.

Summary: Depression is a mood disorder that can impair the brain-gut axis. This study found that lncRNAs profile and Kdr/Vegf alpha/Pten/Bdnf interactions network in the hippocampus and ileum could be important in the brain-gut axis. KDR was identified as a potential target for treating major depressive disorder. Exercise and leucine were found to improve the brain-gut axis in mice with depression-like behaviors. The findings suggest that lncRNAs profiles could serve as biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis, and exercise + leucine could be a practical approach to improve depression.

MNDR v3.0: mammal ncRNA-disease repository with increased coverage and annotation

Lin Ning et al.

Summary: The update to version 3.0 of the mammal ncRNA-disease repository (MNDR) has significantly increased the amount of data and expanded the categories of ncRNAs and mammalian species. This update also includes additional information on drug annotations, subcellular localizations, and interactions of ncRNAs, as well as providing prediction tools for miRNA/lncRNA/circRNA-disease associations. The optimized website now offers a more practical and user-friendly interface, making MNDR v3.0 a valuable resource for research into disease mechanisms and clinical treatment strategies.

A systems pharmacology approach to identify the autophagy-inducing effects of Traditional Persian medicinal plants

Pouria Mosaddeghi et al.

Summary: The study found that several plants used in TPM have active ingredients that regulate autophagy or its upstream pathways, indicating a potential role in antiaging mechanisms involving autophagy. Gene set enrichment analysis and reconstruction of protein-protein interaction networks suggested mTOR as a key network hub. Furthermore, chemoinformatics study identified cyclo-trijuglone of Juglans regia L. as a potential ATP-competitive inhibitor of mTOR among other compounds.

Flavonoids: Potential Candidates for the Treatment of Neurodegenerative Disorders

Shweta Devi et al.

Summary: Neurodegenerative disorders such as PD, AD, ALS, and HD are of great concern due to the lack of effective therapy and increasing number of cases. Small molecules like flavonoids have potential in reducing cellular stress and have gained attention for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties. Further research is needed to uncover the mechanisms behind the protective effects of flavonoids against cellular stress response in neurodegenerative disorders.

Mediterranean diet and the hallmarks of ageing

Oliver M. Shannon et al.

Summary: Ageing is a multifactorial process that involves reduced function and increased risk of diseases and death. Healthy dietary patterns can reduce the risk of age-related diseases and increase longevity by positively influencing cellular and molecular hallmarks of ageing. The Mediterranean dietary pattern, characterized by plant-based foods, has been associated with better health during ageing and may impact each hallmark of ageing positively.

Aging biomarkers and the measurement of health and risk

Sara Green et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the increasing focus on preventing age-related disorders, exploring new opportunities to slow down the aging process through interventions such as personalized nutrition. The development of a new aging biomarker is proposed, with a combination of philosophical analysis and ethnographic fieldwork to examine the management of aging and the societal and ethical implications of reframing aging as a risk.

Alzheimer disease

David S. Knopman et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive impairments. The pathophysiology involves a complex interplay of loss of synaptic homeostasis and dysfunction in endosomal/lysosomal clearance pathways. Therapeutic options are still being sought to substantially alter the clinical course of individuals with Alzheimer's disease.

Healthy Aging-Relevant Goals: The Role of Person-Context Co-construction

Hans-Werner Wahl et al.

Summary: This article discusses how individuals' motivation for healthy aging is influenced by different contexts as they age. The concept of co-construction is used to argue that both individuals and contexts contribute to the formation, maintenance, and disengagement from health goals in adulthood and old age. The study proposes four conceptual refinements to healthy aging models, emphasizing the impact of context on individuals' health goals and how these impacts change as individuals move through different aging stages.
