Alkylimidazolium Protic Ionic Liquids: Structural Features and Physicochemical Properties

Liudmila E. Shmukler et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the investigation of a series of protic ionic liquids (PILs) with imidazolium and alkylimidazolium cations and analyzes the effects of anion nature and alkyl radical length in the cation structure on thermal and transport properties. The results show that the higher thermodynamic stability of an ion pair increases the PIL decomposition temperature. The melting points of salts decrease as the alkyl radical length in the cation becomes longer, indicating weaker ion-ion interaction in the ion pairs. A comparative analysis between protic ILs and corresponding ILs with the same radical in the cation structure and the same anion has been performed, suggesting that lower melting points of ILs with 1R3MeIm cations result from the weakening of both the ion-ion interaction and the hydrogen bond.

Enhancing the Catalytic Performance of Group I, II Metal Halides in the Cycloaddition of CO2 to Epoxides under Atmospheric Conditions by Cooperation with Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Highly Nucleophilic Aminopyridines: Experimental and Theoretical Study

Wuttichai Natongchai et al.

Summary: Compared to metal-organic complexes and transition-metal halides, group I metal halides as catalysts have advantages such as availability, low cost, low molecular weight, and not relying on potentially endangered metals. However, they require the assistance of additional catalytic moieties due to their low intrinsic catalytic efficiency.

Investigation uncovered the impact of anions on CO2 absorption by low viscous ether functionalized pyridinium ionic liquids

Shahid Hussain et al.

Summary: In this study, ionic liquids with good biodegradability and low viscosity were synthesized using ether functionalized pyridinium ion [E1Py] as cation and ions containing cyano groups as anions, showing enhanced CO2 absorption capacity with increased cyano groups in ionic liquids. The physiochemical properties of these synthesized ionic liquids were characterized, and the CO2 absorption was systematically studied, with thermodynamic properties such as enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs free energy also calculated.

Adsorption of industrial dyes on functionalized and nonfunctionalized asphaltene: A combined molecular dynamics and quantum mechanics study

Abdul Rajjak Shaikh et al.

Summary: The study investigated the adsorption of dyes by asphaltene and its functionalized version using MD and DFT calculations. Results showed varying interaction energies between functionalized and nonfunctionalized dyes, with methylene blue having stronger interaction with asphaltene and methyl orange binding more strongly with FASP. Bromophenol blue demonstrated weak interaction with both types of asphaltene.
