Constructing ultrathin defective Co3O4/MoS2 nanosheets based 2D/2D heterojunction toward room temperature NH3 detection

Ya Xiong et al.

Summary: The synthesis of ultrathin defective Co3O4/MoS2 nanosheets with large heterointerfaces and high specific surface area has been successfully achieved, and they exhibit excellent gas sensing performances including high response value, selectivity, and long-term stability. The presence of rich defects and intimate interfacial electronic interaction in the Co3O4/MoS2 nanosheets enables abundant active adsorption sites and rapid electrons transfer, contributing to their superior gas sensing properties. The versatile integration strategy demonstrated in this study provides potential for innovative applications in the field of gas sensing.

Specificity improvement of the YSZ-based mixed potential gas sensor for acetone and hydrogen sulfide detection

Xidong Hao et al.

Summary: A mixed potential gas sensor using yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) solid electrolyte was developed for acetone and hydrogen sulfide detection, with improved specificity achieved by adjusting operating temperature and fabricating a double-sensing electrode sensor. The sensor exhibited high sensitivity to both acetone and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) when using NiAlGaO4 sensing electrode and Pt reference electrode, while the double-sensing electrode sensor with Sm1.2Sr0.8CoO4 material showed good specificity to acetone against H2S due to differences in sensing properties. The low detection limit of the sensor was 1 ppm with a sensitivity of 21 mV/decade, showing great potential for non-invasive breath analysis.

High performance ammonia gas detection based on TiO2/WO3•H2O heterojunction sensor

Cao Cheng et al.

Summary: TiO2/WO3·H2O (TW) heterojunction gas sensor shows high sensitivity, excellent selectivity, and long-term stability in detecting NH3. The improvement in NH3 detection performance of TW heterojunction is mainly attributed to the increased oxygen free radicals on the surface caused by TiO2 nanoparticles, leading to more reactions with NH3 molecules to release more electrons.

Ultralow-detection limit ammonia gas sensors at room temperature based on MWCNT/WO3 nanocomposite and effect of humidity

Vu Truong Duong et al.

Summary: Nanocomposite-based NH3 gas sensors, composed of MWCNTs and WO3 nanobricks, show enhanced gas sensing characteristics with high response, ultralow limit of detection, and selectivity to NH3. The synergistic effect of p-p junction between MWCNT and WO3 surface inversion layer is responsible for the enhanced gas sensing characteristics, with response increasing as relative humidity rises.

Sustainable Ammonia Production Processes

Seyedehhoma Ghavam et al.

Summary: Recent studies have focused on finding environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and economically viable production processes for ammonia synthesis due to its importance in agriculture and potential as an energy carrier. However, the commonly used Haber-Bosch process for ammonia production has high greenhouse gas emissions and energy usage. Sustainable hydrogen production methods like water electrolysis coupled with renewable technologies are being explored, but they require large amounts of pretreated water. A comparative life cycle assessment of various ammonia production methods shows that significant GHG emissions or high volumes of water are still present in these technologies.
