A Universal Strategy for Constructing Robust and Antifouling Cellulose Nanocrystal Coating

Wenshuai Yang et al.

Summary: The study developed a surface coating method to anchor super-hydrophilic cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) firmly on various substrates using a bio-glue layer composed of tannic acid/polyethylenimine/vanadium, achieving a CNCs coating with high-density structure and low roughness. The CNCs coating exhibited outstanding antifouling properties and high water flux, showing potential for broad engineering and environmental applications.

Overview of the development of slippery surfaces: Lubricants from presence to absence

Xiaobo Wang et al.

Summary: Superhydrophobic surfaces inspired by the lotus have excellent performances, but there are still some issues that can be avoided by liquid-infused surfaces inspired by Nepenthes. Lubricant-free slipper materials have attracted more attention due to their durability and lubrication performance. This paper summarizes the types of LIS lubricants, their applications, and discusses the future development prospects.

Protein quantification in ecological studies: A literature review and empirical comparisons of standard methodologies

Moshe Zaguri et al.

Summary: Protein quantification methods commonly used by ecologists yield divergent and imprecise results, preventing consistency across different taxa. The recommendation is to use the BCA method to reduce inconsistencies until more affordable and accurate amino acid analysis becomes accessible to ecologists, while also being cautious of the potential inaccuracies of protein quantification methods and interpreting results accordingly.

Design of Lubricant-Infused Surfaces Based on Mussel-Inspired Nanosilica Coatings: Solving Adhesion by Pre-Adhesion

Rishun Li et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates a facile method to fabricate slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPSs) based on mussel-inspired polydopamine-mediated nanosilica structures, showing enhanced durability and resistance against adhesion. The pre-adhesion of PDA strategy results in high transparency and excellent antifouling properties of the obtained SLIPSs, making them a potential candidate for fouling resistance of porous materials.
