Oxidation mechanism of MAX phases (Ti3AlC2 powders) with and without Sn doping

Summary: The oxidation behaviors of Ti3AlC2 and Ti3Al0.8Sn0.2C2 powders in air have been compared, with the conclusion that Sn doping can decrease the oxidation resistance of Ti3AlC2 due to its weakening effect on the Ti-Al bonds. The oxidation behaviors of both powders vary significantly depending on the temperature, and the real physical picture (RPP) model further confirms the accelerating effect of Sn doping on the oxidation process of Ti3AlC2 powders.
