Role of Functional Groups in the Monomer Molecule on the Radical Polymerization in the Presence of Graphene Oxide. Polymerization of Hydroxyethyl Acrylate under Isothermal and Non-Isothermal Conditions

Ioannis S. Tsagkalias et al.

Summary: Functional groups in monomer molecules and graphene oxide play important roles in polymerization. Graphene oxide can accelerate the reaction rate, while the formation of hydrogen bonds between monomer and polymer molecules can slow down the reaction rate.

Polymerization initiation of pure 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate under shock wave compression

Zixian Jia et al.

Summary: The ability to initiate chemical reactions without the need for potentially hazardous solvents, catalysts, and radical initiators is crucial in modern biotechnologies and medicine. In this study, laser-driven shock wave compression was used to trigger the polymerization process of pure 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) without any additives. The results showed that the generated shock wave pressure allowed the initiation of radical polymerization and the formation of poly-HEMA oligomers.
