One step machining of hierarchical optical structures for autostereoscopic images

Summary: This work presents a new optical design and machining strategy to achieve the one step generation of hierarchical optical structures on a flat surface for autostereoscopic effects. The design combines V-groove arrays as a parallax barrier for stereopsis and integrated diffraction gratings with variable grating spacing for motion parallax. Using tool geometry and elliptical tool vibration, the hierarchical structures are machined simultaneously to form V-grooves and generate blazed gratings. An autostereoscopic image with strong depth perception and high pixel density is fabricated.

Theoretical and experimental investigation on the radial-fly-cutting process for micro-structured surface fabrication

Summary: This paper investigates and validates the generation of micro-structured surfaces and hierarchical-structured surfaces under four modes of RFC. A novel RFC mode called SA-HFRFC is proposed for efficient fabrication of intricate hierarchical-structured surfaces. A new surface generation algorithm is developed to calculate and predict complex micro-structured surfaces. Numerical simulations and machining experiments confirm the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Ultraprecision tool-servo cutting of pure nickel for fabricating micro/nanostructure arrays

Summary: This study proposed an ultraprecision tool-servo cutting process to fabricate micro/nanostructure arrays on nickel surfaces. Micro-lens array and sawtooth-shaped nanostructure array were successfully fabricated with high accuracy. The sawtooth-shaped nanostructure array exhibited structural colors. The proposed cutting process offers a flexible and highly efficient fabrication method for extending the application fields of nickel and its alloy to optics.

A novel fabrication of micro/nano hierarchical grating structures for structural coloration by using revolving tip-based machining method
