Magnetic anisotropy and ferroelectric-driven magnetic phase transition in monolayer Cr2Ge2Te6

Wen-Rong Liu et al.

Summary: The electronic and magnetic properties of monolayer Cr2Ge2Te6 were explored to find that magnetic shape anisotropy plays a vital role in establishing long-range ferromagnetism, mainly originating from hybridized Te-p(y) and -p(z) orbitals. By creating a heterostructure with ferroelectric Sc2CO2, a spin reorientation and electronic property transition were observed in Cr2Ge2Te6, leading to an increase in Curie temperature to 92.4 K. These findings not only clarify the contradiction in previous studies but also pave the way for nonvolatile magnetic memory devices based on multifunctional ferromagnetic/ferroelectric heterostructures.

Summary: Thermally-induced diffusion intermixing is a prospective route for intermetallic compound formation. The addition of a third element can accelerate diffusion and ordering processes. In this study, the introduction of an Au layer reduced the onset temperature and annealing time for the formation of a hard magnetic phase, while the remaining layer stack formed a magnetically soft phase.

Tailoring structural and magnetic viz. static and dynamic properties of soft magnetic CoFeB film with Ta incorporation

Harsh Vardhan et al.

Summary: This study provides an example of tailoring magnetic properties by structural modifications with controlled incorporation of Ta in soft magnetic CoFeB films. Unlike conventional thermal annealing, the stress-induced in-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy of CoFeB is released with the incorporation of Ta. The increase in atomic percent of Ta in CoFeB leads to a decrease in the saturation magnetization of the soft magnetic layer and film densification. Ferromagnetic resonance confirms the reduction of effective magnetization and the increase in damping parameter due to the presence of Ta. Vacuum annealing rapidly eliminates the magnetic anisotropy in Ta-doped CoFeB films, and annealing at a temperature beyond the CoFeB crystallization temperature increases the magnetization and magnetic coercivity.

The Effects of Stresses and Interfaces on Texture Transformation in Silver Thin Films

Nhat Minh Dang et al.

Summary: Thin metal films play a critical role in nano- and micro-fabricated technologies, with the texture orientation of the films significantly impacting the performance of the devices. This research investigated the texture transformation of thin films under different conditions and found that the presence of an adhesion layer and the application of initial stress both influenced the transformation. The results suggest that the texture transformation can be controlled through these factors.

Controlled Magnetic Isolation and Decoupling of Perpendicular FePt Films by Capping Ultrathin Cu(002) Nano-Islands

Da-Hua Wei et al.

Summary: This study explores the effects of ultrathin Cu(002) capping nano-islands on the magnetic properties and microstructure of FePt(001) films directly deposited on MgO(001) substrates at a low temperature of 300 degrees C. The enhancement of coercivity is attributed to Cu atom behavior spreading along grain boundaries, and the Cu capping layer can control the strength of intergrain exchange coupling. The existence of dipole interaction is observed in the designed Cu/FePt composite structure of stacked films.
