Absolute Bed Rest Duration of 3 Days for Osteoportoic Vertebral Fractures: A Rtrospective Study

Sung Tan Cho et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal duration of absolute bed rest (ABR) for older patients receiving conservative treatment for osteoporotic vertebral fractures and found that a 3-day ABR period is appropriate for conservative treatment of OVFs.

Physical Functions and Comorbidity Affecting Collapse at 4 or More Weeks after Admission in Patients with Osteoporotic Vertebral Fractures: A Prospective Cohort Study

Takuya Umehara et al.

Summary: The study investigated factors affecting collapse at >= 4 weeks after hospital admission in patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures. The results highlighted that cardiovascular disease, movement control, and Pain Catastrophizing Scale score were significant in predicting vertebral collapse in these patients after admission.

Operational Definition Identifying Osteoporotic Vertebral Fractures in the Claims Database

Min Heui Yu et al.

Summary: The study analyzed ICD-10 diagnostic codes, procedure codes, and radiographic image codes to establish an operational definition for identifying patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures. By evaluating medical records and images, the operational definition was shown to be effective in identifying vertebral fractures.

Relationship between Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Lumbar Bone Mineral Density in Postmenopausal Women

Chang-Yk Lee et al.

Summary: This cross-sectional study aimed to analyze the relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women, as well as assess risk factors for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) in postmenopausal diabetic women. The study found a positive correlation between body mass index (BMI) and lumbar BMD, while age was negatively correlated with BMD.

Relationship between Skeletal Muscle Mass, Bone Mineral Density, and Trabecular Bone Score in Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures

Soichiro Tokeshi et al.

Summary: In this study, relationships between skeletal muscle mass, bone mineral density, and trabecular bone score in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures were investigated. Lower femoral BMD and decreased leg muscle mass were identified as risk factors for VCFs independent of age, while TBS was not indicated as a risk factor. Patients with VCFs had low BMD, low TBS, and low skeletal muscle mass.

The effect on subsequent fracture risk of age, sex, and prior fracture site by recency of prior fracture

Summary: The risk of a recurrent fragility fracture varies by age, sex, and site of sentinel fracture when recency is held constant. Men have higher hazard ratios for prior fractures compared to women, and the hazard ratios decrease progressively with age.

Summary: This study found a proportional relationship between the severity of underweight and the risk of stroke, MI, and all-cause mortality in the general population. Furthermore, this proportional association became more pronounced when waist circumference was additionally adjusted.

Association between Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures and Age, Bone Mineral Density, and European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions in Korean Postmenopausal Women: A Nationwide Cross-sectional Observational Study

Min Joon Cho et al.

Summary: The study found that the prevalence of thoracolumbar junction OVCFs rapidly increases with age and low BMD in Korean postmenopausal women. Femur and total hip BMD are more predictive of thoracolumbar junction fractures than lumbar spine BMD. Patients with radiologic OVCFs had a significantly lower quality of life.
