The lncRNA MARS modulates the epigenetic reprogramming of the marneral cluster in response to ABA

Thomas Roule et al.

Summary: Clustered organization of biosynthetic non-homologous genes in plant genomes is regulated by epigenetic reprogramming and chromatin conformation. This study identified a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) called MARS that controls the local epigenetic activation in response to ABA in Arabidopsis marneral cluster. MARS modulates the binding of PRC1 component LHP1, leading to changes in H3K27me3 deposition and chromatin condensation. This study suggests that co-regulated lncRNAs play a role in the evolution of biosynthetic pathways.

lncRNA7 and lncRNA2 modulate cell wall defense genes to regulate cotton resistance to Verticillium wilt

Lin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and their regulating genes in cotton play a role in regulating disease resistance against pathogens such as fungi. Specifically, lncRNA7 and its regulating gene GbPMEI13 were found to positively regulate disease resistance, while lncRNA2 and its regulating gene GbPG12 negatively regulated resistance. It was also discovered that fungal disease-related agents could downregulate the expression of lncRNA2 and GbPG12, resulting in pectin accumulation, while upregulating the expression of lncRNA7. Furthermore, the study revealed that a plant peptide called PSK-alpha could enhance disease resistance by regulating auxin accumulation and activating GbPMEI13 expression.

Chromatin-associated orphan snoRNA regulates DNA damage-mediated differentiation via a non-canonical complex

Cai Han et al.

Summary: This study systematically profiles chromatin-associated snoRNAs (casnoRNAs) in mammalian cells and identifies a group of orphan casnoRNAs responsive to DNA damage stress. SNORA73, among them, shows the most marked reduction in chromatin enrichment and is involved in maintaining cancer genome stability and differentiation block in hematopoietic malignancy. Mechanistically, SNORA73's non-canonical structure is critical for its function and binding to PARP1. It inhibits PARP1 auto-PARylation by forming a snoRNP with PARP1 and canonical H/ACA proteins DKC1/NHP2, affecting cancer genome stability.

Genome-wide analysis of long non-coding RNAs in shoot apical meristem and vascular cambium in Populus tomentosa

Yayu Guo et al.

Summary: Shoot apical and lateral meristems are important for both primary and secondary growth in plants. In this study, the roles of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the regulation of primary and secondary growth in Populus were investigated. A total of 1298 lncRNAs were identified in the shoot apical meristem and vascular cambium, and their differential expression patterns were analyzed. The results showed that these differentially expressed lncRNAs mainly influenced the expression of genes related to the ribosome pathway, plant hormone signal pathway, and photosynthesis pathway. Furthermore, the study identified six key lncRNAs and their target genes involved in plant secondary metabolites, cellulose and lignin synthesis, and hormone and signal transduction. The findings provide new insights into the lncRNA-mRNA networks in the development of vascular cambium in Populus.
