Copper in tumors and the use of copper-based compounds in cancer treatment

Daniela Almeida da Silva et al.

Summary: Copper ions have shown potential in cancer therapy, especially when complexed with organic counterparts. Studies have also suggested using copper in nanoparticles for imaging and treating hypoxic tumors, but challenges remain in their solubility and mechanism of action.

Crystal interaction, Hirshfeld surface analysis, and spectral analysis of new Dithiocarbazate Schiff bases derivative (LH) and its neutral cis-Cu(L)2 complex

Ahmed Boshaala et al.

Summary: Reaction between S-benzyldithiocarbazate and 4-Methoxyacetophenone yielded bidentate N,S Schiff base LH, which further reacted with a copper(II) salt to form cis-Cu(L)(2) complex. In solid state, LH existed in thione tautomeric form and chelated with Cu(II) center. Experimental analysis indicated strong hydrogen bonds as the main interactions in LH and cis-Cu(L)(2).

The Cytotoxic Effect of Copper (II) Complexes with Halogenated 1,3-Disubstituted Arylthioureas on Cancer and Bacterial Cells

Alicja Chrzanowska et al.

Summary: A series of copper (II) complexes with 3-(4-chloro-3-nitrophenyl)thiourea were synthesized and evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against cancer cell lines, showing promising results in targeting tumor cells; they also demonstrated the ability to decrease IL-6 concentration and affect enzyme activity in cancer cells; the compounds exhibited cytotoxic effects against both standard and hospital bacterial strains.

Dithiocarbazate-Copper Complexes for Bioimaging and Treatment of Pancreatic Cancer

Yi Gou et al.

Summary: The three fluorescent dithiocarbazate-copper complexes showed significant cytotoxicity against pancreatic cancer cell lines, with complex 3 primarily targeting mitochondria and inducing cell death through mechanisms including ferroptosis. This complex is the first copper complex to demonstrate cellular events consistent with ferroptosis in cancer cells and effectively inhibited the growth of ASPC-1 cells in a mouse xenograft model.
