Summary: This study investigated the co-pyrolysis of low-lipid microalgae and waste polystyrene, and found that the blends with 75% and 65% low-lipid microalgae exhibited the strongest synergistic effect. Co-pyrolysis significantly increased the production of hydrocarbons, particularly aromatic hydrocarbons, while limiting the production of nitrogenous and oxygenous compounds.

From municipal solid waste (MSW) to hydrogen: Performance optimization of a fixed bed gasifier using Box-Benkhen method

Pradip Mondal

Summary: Management of solid waste has always been a challenging task for governing authorities. This study focuses on using gasification to produce hydrogen (H-2) from municipal solid waste (MSW) as a green fuel alternative. A fixed bed gasifier model is developed and optimized to achieve the best output parameters including H-2 yield, lower heating value (LHV) of syngas, and cold gas efficiency (CGE).

Comparatively investigation of real MSW and biomass tar treatment by a rotating gliding arc

Xiangzhi Kong et al.

Summary: A rotating gliding arc plasma reactor is proposed to effectively remove tar from municipal solid waste and biomass, achieving over 90% destruction efficiency for major components. The study compared the composition of tar from MSW and biomass, highlighting the influence of vapor concentration, CO2 concentration, and discharge current on destruction efficiency. Species with oxygen-containing functional groups are more susceptible to destruction compared to aromatic hydrocarbon species, with similar trends in destruction efficiency observed for both MSW and biomass tar.
