Effects of change in streamflow patterns on water quality

Rupesh Patil et al.

Summary: This study found that in the Goulburn-Broken catchment in Australia, pollutant and nutrient concentrations increased while dissolved oxygen and nitrogen levels decreased. Simulations also showed that climate change, river regulation, and flow diversion would impact water quality indicators.

Responses of different facets of aquatic plant diversity along environmental gradients in Mediterranean streams: Results from rivers of Greece

Konstantinos Stefanidis et al.

Summary: Aquatic and riparian plants are crucial for riverine ecosystems, with human disturbances playing a significant role in shaping macrophyte assemblages. Phosphates and hydromorphological modification were found to be significant predictors of species richness, while taxonomic distinctness was influenced by elevation, water temperature, and pH. Compositional dissimilarity was most impacted by geographic distance, elevation, temperature, and total inorganic nitrogen.

Effects of submerged vegetation on sediment nitrogen-cycling bacterial communities in Honghu Lake (China)

Haoping Wu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of submerged vegetation (SV) on sediment nitrogen-cycling bacterial communities in Honghu Lake, China. Results showed that SV influenced the diversity and abundance of bacterial communities by improving water quality and sediment properties. The study also revealed the negative impact of high C:N ratio on specific bacterial assemblages.

Correlation of various water quality parameters and water quality index of districts of Uttarakhand

Vinod Kothari et al.

Summary: This study assessed the water quality of rural areas in Garhwal and Kumaon districts of Uttarakhand, India, based on hydrogeochemical and biological parameters, as well as calculation of Water Quality Index (WQI). The physicochemical properties met standards for drinking purposes, but bacteriological parameters in some samples exceeded permissible limits. Statistical analysis revealed significant relationships between different water quality parameters, with TDS showing the highest correlation with conductivity, sulphate, and chloride ion concentration.
