A ceramic-based multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) radiator has been structured and investigated. The proposed antenna features a suspended metasurface that reduces |S-12| by -25 dB, alters linearly polarized waves into circularly ones, and includes the polarization diversity concept to improve isolation by more than 35 dB. Experimental verification confirms its working over the frequency range of 5.25-5.85 GHz, producing a 3-dB axial ratio from 5.3 GHz to 5.51 GHz, making it suitable for WLAN (5.4 GHz) applications.
A ceramic-based multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) radiator has been structured and investigated. Important features of the proposed antenna that make it unique, are: (1) suspension of the metasurface over the radiator reduces the level of |S-12| by an amount of -25 dB; (2) the metasurface also alters the linearly polarized waves into circularly ones; and (3) the inclusion of the polarization diversity concept further improves the isolation (more than 35 dB). Experimental verification of the proposed antenna confirms its working over the frequency range of 5.25-5.85 GHz. In between the operating band, a 3-dB axial ratio is produced from 5.3 GHz to 5.51 GHz. All these characteristics make the designed radiator appropriate for WLAN (5.4 GHz) applications.
